"It is often said that to become a better poker player you need to compete against better players. So when given the opportunity to play in one of the region's most competitive tournaments, I had no hesitation in signing up and joining the WAPL team to head to Macau.
The experience was truly amazing and our hosts from WAPL had everything taken care of including access to after event parties, hanging out with regional professional poker players, night-time games and cocktails, and we even had a special tournament just for the WAPL contingent. When it came down to business on the felt, the competition was world class with a variety of international players each trying out their moves trying to take down a sizeable prize pool.
On a personal scale the most important part of the trip was the experience and confidence gained battling it out side by side with both professionals and amateurs each trying to take down the pot without being sent to the rail. "Are you thinking of going to Macau?
I did the same thing last year, do I spend the money and go with the team or can I get it cheaper by myself?
I probably could have gotten it cheaper but Frank told me that what they had planned for this trip was too good to pass up. I know what people are thinking (Is Frank being over excited?)
HELL NO!
He told me that there would be private functions with Poker Stars and the Asia Pro Team, and there was.
He told me that there would be team functions, and there were.
He told me that there would be a team dinner at one of the best places in Macau, and there was.
He told me that there would be a team poker game for a seat into the main event, and there was.
But what Frank didn't tell me was that the team we took over was going to be fantastic, we had such a great time. In and around the Poker Stars casino we were made to feel so welcome and they treated us like pro players from the time we go there.
I can't recommend this trip any more than to say that Paul and me will be the first names on Frank's list this year.
Once again, if you can get the time off work and you have the money to go.......

"Karen and I decided to head to Macau as we had heard from other players about the great time they had the previous year. We had an outstanding time, not least in part due to the great relationship WAPL have with the Pokerstars team in Macau. We were made to feel very welcome and a part of the poker community. There was an arrival function in which we got to personally meet and enjoy a few drinks with members of Team Pokerstars Asia including Celina Lin and Bryan Huang. The players were great and were very giving with their time in allowing us to swap "war stories".
There were also several team functions organised, including dinner at one of the top eateries in Macau, a team tournament for a seat in to the main event and an invite to the players welcome party. These functions coupled together with the great camaraderie of the entire team (the support tableside for team members who ran deep was second to none!) made the trip for me even better by some margin than the trip to Vegas we had done earlier in the year.
To top things off the continuous availability of tournaments both day and night and the reasonable entry into the main event enabled us to brush shoulders with some of the leading poker players in the region. Karen played on the same table as Joe Hachem in Day 1 of the main event and I was seated at the same table as Jeff Lissandro on Day 2.
For those that tire of poker day in and day out, there is also the ability to take day trips in to either China or Hong Kong for a great, cheap, shopping experience.
All in all, for a poker based sojourn abroad, I would highly recommend the WAPL Macau trip. It was an amazing event.

"Macau Nov 2010 with team WAPL, what a great time Rob and I had, we played heaps of poker and visited only a handful of the 32 casinos Macau has to offer. We met and partied with heaps of Poker Pros, all thanks to WAPL (Jason, Frank and Jill). The team package that Rob won and I was reluctant to buy at first turned out to be well worth it, with VIP entry into Pokerstars parties, entry into a satellite game, with the chance to win entry into the main event, team dinners, jackets, hats and many other great souvenirs and memories to bring home.

Macau itself can only be described as 'Asian Vegas', with 32 casinos there is always something to do and see day or night! Whether you're in the mood to party like a rock star in the VIP section of the Pokerstars players party or relax by the Grand Lisboa pool while getting massaged, Macau has what you're looking for.
If that all wasn't enough, the Red Dragon tournament is easily one of the best tournies in the Australasian poker calendar, very well run by friendly staff and a great starting stack to blind ratio that gives you plenty of time to get into the groove and play your A game.
Would definitely recommend this trip to any keen poker player!"
