Grand Final Season 6 - Sunday, 27 April 2008

The Pro League Grand Final for Season 6 was yet again a huge tournament, with a total prize pool of over $55,000 in cash and prizes, and a total of 168 runners! In what was probably our smoothest Finals day yet from the point of view of the flow of the tournament, we finally reached our last 8 players and hit Final Table!

With even 8th place taking nearly $1450 in prize money, the players were all smiles and nerves as they moved to their positions on the table. Short stacked and first out was Tina Dinardo, the only female to make Final Table! Len Histon, Derek Winkler and Robert Paradiso followed shortly after, as did Jay Poa, who survived a couple of hands before succumbing his chips to the final 3...

Our last 3 consisted of Elephant & Wheelbarrow representative Marc Kennedy, who had cashed in the last 2 Pro Grand Finals, and Brighton Hotel Mandurah regulars Chris Van Maanen and Scott Gorfin.

With the blinds high, the chip stacks huge, and a huge crowd overlooking, chips went back and forth till a crucial hand saw Marc lose many of his chips with a 9 10 of clubs vs Chris's Jack 6 offsuit. Marc busted out shortly after, picking up a cool $3643 for 3rd place. Well done Marc!

Down to the final 2 Mandurah Members, and we saw Chris with a big chip stack assume control of the tournament. Scott had a big job to do, but set about his task quickly, taking a couple of big pots down and creeping closer to the chip lead. With some tense moments such as a split pot A2 vs A4, a 7 high heart flush from Scott's all in, and a final hand of King Jack off (Chris) vs King Queen off (Scott), saw Scott take the crown of WAPL Season 6 Grand Final Champion after a great comeback! Well done Chris for your great effort ($5881 for 2nd place), and Scott took down the $20,013 cash prize plus the $5000 WAPL 18ct Gold, Diamond and Ruby Championship medallion for his awesome performance!

We hope everyone had a great day, and look forward to catching you all for an even bigger season of Poker for Season 7! We'd like to also thank our staff for the huge effort they put in on the day, and for the great season we've had!

Regards,

Your WA Poker League Team
