King of the Hill 2 Round Up

The second King of the Hill Event was yet again a great success, with 110 players, many spectators and other members who came down to take advantage of the Cash Tables and Sit and Goes running on the night. The night ran smoothly for the most part, and comments back so far have been very promising as to the amount of fun had at our King of the Hill events!

We are aware of the fact that there are some issues with timing for a tournament of this structure, and with us finishing at massive blinds (300,000/600,000) and literally millions in chips on the final table, the push to bring the tournament in on time is something we'll be working towards improving for the next one! We may well see a change of day from Friday night to a Sunday day/night to allow everyone some more time to get there for registration and for us to get it started earlier.

The one letdown over the whole night was unfortunately the conduct of one person, which led to a rather tense environment upon completion of the tournament. We would like to remind our members that good manners, etiquette and respect are a very important part of playing good poker, especially within a social poker league. We are all here to have fun, and although the person concerned did not direct his verbal outbursts at anyone in particular, the situation led to much frustration and annoyance. This sort of behaviour, although falling just short of us removing him from the tournament altogether, demonstrates the sort of mannerisms we strive to avoid at our tournaments, and said person has since been informed that his membership has been suspended.

The "bad boy" or "bad girl" image may be one that is infamously hyped in media poker coverage, but in a social poker situation it's not acceptable as we are here to make sure everyone has a good time, and we do our utmost to ensure that this happens.

As far as the night goes, we stand by our decision to not remove this player from the tournament due to the legalities involved in a money tournament. Had he been personally abusive towards people it would have been a different situation, however we have boundaries we must work within, and just because someone is being annoying is not a good enough excuse to remove them from a tournament.

As for those few people who voiced their opinions at the conclusion of the tournament, we trust that you have settled down now and can see the situation we were in, and why we handled it the way we did on the night and will do so in the future.

All in all, it was a good tournament, and thank you to those many people who have said how good a time they had, and how well it was run and handled. We'd like to thank our staff for once again running an exceptional event!

We look forward to another fun King of the Hill next time, and with the great turnout we had this time, trust that the next one will be even bigger and better!
